DECLARING AN ETHNIC STUDIES MAJOR OR MINOR

The process of declaring a major or minor with the Department of Ethnic Studies requires all interested students to first meet with one of the Ethnic Studies faculty advisors. These advisors are:

Prof. Charise Cheney

Prof. Lynn Fujiwara

Prof. Michael Hames-Garcia

Prof. Ernesto Martinez

Prof. Alai Reyes-Santos

Prof. Stephanie Teves

Prof. Brian Klopotek

Students may drop in during advisors’ office hours or schedule an appointment with an advisor by calling or emailing. Please see the faculty page for current office hours and contact information.

In this meeting, an advisor will review the student’s Degree Audit Report for completed courses, classes needed for an Ethnic Studies major or minor degree, and identify the direction the student would like to head with their ethnic studies course selections. The advisor will help the student create a direction of study that is tailored to ES class offerings, the students’ interests, and what ES courses may have already completed. Students will also receive a Major/Minor Declaration form that students must complete before any changes can be made. The advisor will have these forms available to sign and then they will be processed.
